.....My name is Harry Gibson. I have recently started researching my family tree using mainly the Internet as my source. The records held by family members are priceless and I would wish that you will be willing to photocopy anything that you have, write down stories that have been handed down through generations and forward it to me.
Here is my plan:
.....I intend to gather documents, photos, stories, and letters for every family line forward and backward as far as I can. This information will be published on my website. This site at the time of this writing is in it's infancy but you can see it at www.w3zone.com. Any individual with Internet access will be able to trace their lineage and view the photos and other documents that are associated with their own lineage. There are also additional things that I have done and plan to do. The website contains a guest-book where everyone can sign in and leave a little note about themselves. I will put together a mail list for those using email and possibly even a chatroom where family members can gather. I am also considering a print Newsletter that could be mailed out semi-annually to keep family members apprised of goings on such as achievements (graduations, awards…), births, deaths and other things of some importance to our family.
.....Currently one of the best resources that I have found for doing this research has been the Family Tree Maker CD's. So far I have purchased 20 of these CD's (The complete collection is over 100 CD's, containing 154 million names, one fifth of all the people who ever lived in America), the original set bought by my Dad (George Gibson) and the rest by myself. .....Well, that's about all I have for now. I would like to take one last opportunity to urge you to please forward copies of any information that you may have. Bible records, old letters written in the hand of our ancestors, military records, birth, marriage and death records. Current addresses, email addresses and other contact info for anyone willing to participate in this effort. I can't express enough how much your participation in this way will benefit our future generations, as many of these things are lost to time. Also I express my deepest thanks in advance for your participation.
.....Note: If you would like to send copies of documents but cannot afford it or are physically unable to have them made and sent, please contact me. I will do all I can to assist you, I may even be able to find a family member near you who can do some of the footwork. Also please contact me before making copies or sending precious documents so that I can share additional information on the best way to accomplish this.
